Kids Dance Classes in Tigard Oregon

The Ballroom Dance Company provides the most comprehensive kids program in Oregon. We offer fabulous and fun dance classes for children as young as 3 years old. We teach age and skill specific classes for children (3-6 years old), juniors (6-15 years old) and Teens (13-18 years old). Kids are also recieve discounted tuition to our Adult Classes. To maximize learning and cost savings, we offer many specialized weekly group classes to choose from, minimizing the need for multiple weekly expensive private lessons. Committed students complete our program with the ability to dance professionally, should they choose that career track.

Kids classes cost $10 per student, per class. Drop-ins and new students are always welcome in beginners classes. Intermediate, performance, competition and advanced level classes require instructor pre-approval. Creative Movement

Creative Movement is the perfect class to introduce 3-6 year-old boys and girls to the world of dance! In this class, children will learn coordination, balance, rhythm, and musical expression, along with basic dance patterns. Students will be introduced to the basic levels of various styles of dance, including ballet, jazz, and ballroom. They will gain appreciation and enjoyment of dance using fun props, such as ribbons and scarves. This class is designed to stimulate creativity of movement and spark an early interest in dance as a form of art!

Ballroom, Latin & Swing Dance

Ballroom dance encompasses a wide variety of dance styles including traditional ballroom, latin, swing, and contemporary partner dances. Kids learn all of these styles in our kids ballroom dance classez.

We highly recommend ballroom classes for kids ages 6 & up. Boys and girls are introduced to upbeat dance styles like the cha cha and salsa, as well as sophisticated styles like the waltz and tango. Dedicated students have the opportunity to progress through intermediate and advanced level classes, as well as performance and competition classes.

Classes are divided based on age: 6-15 years old, and 13-18 years old..

Jazz

Jazz dance is an fast-paced class focused on strengthening excercises for kids 6 & up. Students move across the floor with basic progressions that eventually lead up to short combinations, increasing memorzation skills as well as technique applicable to ballroom and ballet dancing like "spotting" for turns. Music used in class emphasizes rhythm and speed, improving students understanding of music as well as their ability to listen and carefully follow directions.

Ballet

Ballet is based on precise conventional steps performed with graceful and flowing movements. These movements increase flexibility, coordination, balance and strength. Ballet provides a solid foundation for all styles of dance -- including but not limited to ballroom, latin and swing. We provide weekly mixed-age (adults and kids) Ballet Classes.

Performance

After growing comfortable in beginners classes, kids and teens often develop interest in performing. We recommend they try out for our Junior (ages 8-18) or Youth (ages 14-19) Performance Team -- with quarterly auditions. Teams perform and compete in our professional Showcases, kids showcases, and other local venues.

Dance Parties

We host chaperoned Teens Only dances 8-10pm the 3rd Staurday of each month. $8 admission includes a 7:30-8pm beginners lesson. Please note: to protect students, non-staff adults will not be allowed into the ballroom unless pre-approved by youth activities director Shawn Gardner, who runs these dances.

We also host weekly all-ages dance parties Sundays 7:30-10pm. Kids of all ages attend these weekly parties, as well as adults. These dances are run by advanced kids class instructor Sunnie Page.
